Notice of Anticipated Vacancies 2024

For Director Terms Expiring November 29, 2024

The North Santa Clara Resource Conservation District (“District”) is an independent special district of the State of California, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors (“Board”) pursuant to Division 9 of the California Public Resources Code. Its mission is “to provide education and technical assistance to constituents and watershed stakeholders to sustainably manage soil, water and wildlife with the best available science.”

At the request of the District, Directors are currently appointed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in order to minimize the tax-funded costs associated with holding Director elections. Four-year terms are staggered and expire on the last Friday of November in even-numbered years. This year, there are three terms due to expire on November 29, 2024.

To qualify for a Director position, an applicant must have a demonstrated interest in natural resource conservation, be a registered California voter, and meet at least one of the following requirements under PRC Section 9352:

a)  A resident of the District who owns real property in the District; or

b)  A resident of the District who has served as an associate director to the District for two years or more; or

c)  A designated agent of a resident landowner within the District.

NSCRCD has adopted a Director Duties and Responsibilities Policy. As public officials, Directors also are required to complete ethics and harassment training every two years, and complete a Statement of Economic Interests (FPPC Form 700) at regular intervals, including upon assuming office.  Prior to assuming office, the appointee will be asked to certify that they meet the State-mandated requirements for the position.

For more information regarding the District and/or the position, please contact Executive Director/District Clerk Stephanie Moreno

To apply for one of these Director positions:

    • Complete a Santa Clara County application.  Although the County does not set a deadline for accepting applications, the Board of Supervisors is expected to make their appointments at their first meeting in November, so you are encouraged to submit your application as early as possible.
    • Applicants are also encouraged, but not required, to complete a separate District application and participate in an interview with the District.  Candidates who submit applications before October 30, 2024 are eligible for interview by NSCRCD for possible recommendation to the Board of Supervisors.
